English blue cheese Bath Blue managed to cope with the tough competition of products from French, Swiss and Dutch masters and grabbed the prize for best cheese in the world.

This happened at the 26th World Cheese Awards in London (BBC Good Food Show). More than 2,700 types of cheese competed in the competition. A list of 50 champions with the best qualities has been compiled from all of them.

The best cheese in the world for this year is produced by the Padfield family with centuries-old traditions in dairy (their company is called Bath Soft Cheese). The technology of preparation of the special cheese requires organic milk obtained from cows raised by the producer and special conditions for maturing in stone rooms. In order to acquire its unique taste, blue cheese stays indoors for between 60 and 70 days.

The Padfield family of Somerset, South West England has an impeccable reputation. The recipe for making Blue Bath dates back hundreds of years. It is even believed that this cheese was Admiral Nelson's favorite.

The second best cheese in the world is Cheddar, produced by Barbers Farmhouse Cheesemakers. And the honorable third place is for a product-mixture between cow's and goat's milk, named Dinarski sir. Its inventor is the Croatian Sirana Gligora.

The competition did not pass without a prize for a French manufacturer. Master Roland Barthelemy was honored as a person with an outstanding contribution to cheese.

Manufacturers from Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, New Zealand, Canada and South Africa also took part in the competition.

And despite the rankings, some of the best cheeses, preferred worldwide, remain Stilton, Roquefort, Parmesan, Mont d'Or, Gruyere.
