Ukrainian cuisine was created over many centuries, so to some extent reflects not only the historical development of the Ukrainian people, but also the social conditions, natural and climatic features, habits and tastes.

Ukrainian cuisine is rich in flavors and nutritional value. One of the most popular dishes is borscht - vegetable soup made from sugar beets, cabbage, potatoes, tomatoes, carrots, onions, garlic, dill, sometimes green pepper, served with sour cream. Another soup loved by Ukrainians is brine, which contains pickles.

Dumplings are similar to pelmeni pasta, which are common in Russian and Ukrainian cuisine. They are consumed with both sweet sauce and salty toppings, they are suitable for both a snack and a main course.

They can be decorated with fresh greenery. They enjoy great respect in Ukraine, where there is even a monument erected in their honor. One of the temptations of Ukrainian cuisine is dumplings with cherry jam.

The pies are made from dough with yeast as for Easter cake, but are cut into larger circles than those for dumplings. In them the filling is different - from meat, fried cabbage with onions, strawberries, apples.

Another Ukrainian specialty is cabbage sarma with chicken. In particular, chicken legs dressed in cabbage leaves, baked in the oven and served with a modest vegetable garnish.

In general, meat is included in the various culinary traditions of Ukraine. During the Christmas holidays, the inhabitants of this country like to cook stuffed duck or goose with apples.

At the end of February, Maslenitsa is celebrated. The holiday is reminiscent of our Sirni Zagovezni. In the "oil week" small, round thin pancakes are made. They are often served with red caviar, meat and honey.

Easter, of course, is about painting eggs. Some time ago they were painted with wax as in our country. Old Ukrainian women still use onions in coloring, young people more often just paint them.

The Easter cake in the Ukrainian version is not braided, but like a mushroom and is called Easter. It is carried along with the colorful eggs in the church at midnight. In the basket for the solemn service are also put salami and wine.
