Queen / Alchemilla vulgaris / is a perennial herbaceous plant that has a stem up to 50 cm tall and a dark brown rhizome.
Its leaves are consecutive, and the flowers are small and yellow-green, gathered at the top of the stem. The fruit of the queen is ovoid, but pointed at the top. The queen is also known as a hat. It blooms in summer.
The queen grows in pastures, mountain meadows and bushes. It is distributed in all high mountains, from 1000 to 2900 meters above sea level. In addition to our country, the queen is found in Central, Northern and Eastern Europe.
The queen is famous mainly as an herb for women. This is not accidental, because in folk medicine it is widely used to treat white flow, menstrual problems and various diseases of the female reproductive system.
A story of a queen
The botanical name of the queen comes from the Arabic "alkemelych" and is derived not only from its healing glory, but also because of the dew that collects in each leaf. The queen's abilities were so famous and strong that the Christian church called him "the mantle of the Virgin Mary."
In the distant past, the herb was used to treat women's ailments. A German herbalist, on the other hand, claimed that with prolonged use of queen, 1/3 of gynecological surgeries will not be necessary.
Despite its reputation as a major female herb, queen has been very popular on the battlefield for wound healing. In 1570, two healing mixtures with the queen were recommended.
One includes powdered queen root with red wine / for internal wounds and external wounds /, and the other is a tincture with the above-ground parts for fractures in babies and young children.
Composition of a queen
Queen contains about 10% tannins. They are derivatives of ellagic and gallic acid, which predominate in the rhizome. The queen contains sugars, resins, vitamin C and flavonoids.
Collection and storage of a queen
Collect the leaves of queen, but for medicinal purposes the whole plant together with the rhizome can be used. The collected herb is dried and stored in a cool and ventilated place. The queen can also be bought from pharmacies and specialized herbal shops.
Benefits of a queen
Queen has anti-inflammatory, antidiarrheal and hemostatic action. Due to its antidiarrheal action, queen is recommended for colic, diarrhea and gastrointestinal disorders.
Queen is used for muscle atrophy, severe damage to the heart muscle, nocturnal urination, female problems. The herb helps to tighten the abdomen after birth, regulates and at the same time stimulates metabolism.
Folk medicine with a queen
In Bulgarian folk medicine queen is recommended to accelerate the healing process of inflammation, wounds and various skin problems, eczema, dermatitis, etc.
Queen's infusion is used to reduce white flow and in inflammatory processes of the cervix and vagina.
The herb helps with heavy menstrual bleeding, relieves irregular and painful cycles. At the same time it is used to relieve menopausal symptoms.
Gargle with a decoction of queen gives positive results in sore throat and ulcers of the oral cavity. Externally, the herb can be used for nosebleeds. For this purpose, squeeze the juice from the fresh queen.
In case of injuries, difficult to heal wounds and boils, a fresh queen is smeared on porridge. The mixture of queen and bloodworm has an excellent antiseptic effect.
To make queen tea, pour 1 tsp. of the herb with 250 ml of water and leave to infuse. Warm baths with queen can be done several times a day. A compress is made by grinding the fresh herb and applying it directly on the affected area.
