A few days ago, Bulgarian poultry farmers said that with the approach of Easter, old eggs from Poland have appeared on the market in our country. The prices of eggs imported from the European Union were much lower than those produced by local farmers, the branch organizations warned.

The case was taken up by the Price Safety Agency after an official signal was received that a large quantity of expired eggs had been imported into Bulgaria. The conclusion of the state department, after an inspection of shops, warehouses and packing centers, is that no eggs of dubious quality have been found in the country.

The agency reassures consumers that large-scale inspections of the trade network throughout the country will be carried out before and during the Easter holidays. Not only eggs will be inspected, but also egg paints, Easter cakes and lamb. The expert inspections will be performed by specially trained duty teams. For now, however, consumers can easily buy the tested eggs available on the Bulgarian market.

There are a few basic ways you can check for yourself if the eggs you buy are usable. The first is to pay attention to whether the shell has a luster. Another way is to put an egg in a glass of water - if it stays on the surface - the product is not fit for consumption, so there is no need to worry if the egg sinks immediately to the bottom of the dish.

Well-sealed eggs can be stored for several months. An interesting fact is that after 7 months of storage in the dark, the eggs fully retain their taste and are not inferior to fresh.
