Many Bulgarians began digging up lands in different parts of Bulgaria in search of expensive black mushrooms known as truffles.
People who have organized themselves in search of truffles have no knowledge about mushrooms, but have heard that more than 30 species of the expensive delicacy grow in Bulgaria.
Truffles are attractive to Bulgarians not only for their unique taste and cosmically high price at which they are sold.
The delicacy, which years ago could be found only in the most expensive restaurants, today can be bought from some markets and large food chains, and the price per kilogram is an average of 4,000 levs.
The wholesale purchase price of these mushrooms is about 1000 BGN, and the retail value of the truffles reaches 7000 BGN.
Many foreign companies have also started excavating Bulgarian lands in search of truffles. It is said that some companies even earn BGN 30,000 a year from black mushrooms.
"This is an excellent form of alternative high-yield agriculture, and it turns out that the Bulgarian soil and climatic conditions are one of the most suitable in the world," said a Sofia investor.
Foreign investors come to our country after they have made preliminary studies and found the most suitable places for planting expensive mushrooms.
On black mushrooms are planted and the so-called. truffle trees, which are seedlings infected with summer truffles, which then develop in their rhizomes.
However, many Bulgarians are not trained in the details of this process, but lured by the high purchase price of truffles, they try to grow them in their garden.
As a result, they destroy only the trees, and mushrooms do not sprout.
The Italian Gian-Luigi Signori, who is close to the first foreigner, discovered that truffles grow in Bulgaria - Patricio Panfilio, says that most of the mushrooms that our people grow are damaged and of poor quality.
Truffles are usually about 30-40 centimeters below the ground, and their size ranges from the size of a walnut to the size of an apple.
