Baklava is undoubtedly the most common pastry in the Arab world, dating back to the Ottoman Empire. It is also very popular among the Balkan peoples, and even in France, but there it is prepared in a slightly different way.
The types of baklava can be divided depending on what dough the baklava is made of and what it can be filled with, but the traditional baklava, which you can eat with great pleasure, for example in Istanbul, is a cake made of puff pastry, which is filled with dried nuts, bake and pour sugar syrup, which in most cases is flavored with lemon or orange water.
It can be cut into different shapes, but in most cases it is cut into diamonds. In the not-so-distant past, traditional dough was made at home, but now, even in the "more remote" Arab countries, ready-made dough is sold for the preparation of baklava, and this greatly facilitates the process of its preparation.
Here is the traditional version for baklava:
Necessary products: 500 g of puff pastry, 50 g of butter, 230 g of walnuts, 80 g of sugar for the filling and 230 g of sugar for the syrup, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder, 1 tablespoon of orange water, 130 ml of water, 1 / 2 lemon.
Preparation: Bring the sugar for the syrup and water to a boil and mix lightly. When boiling the syrup, the juice of the pre-squeezed lemon is added to the liquid, and finally the orange water. The syrup prepared in this way is set aside to cool.
The dough is cut into two equal parts to fit the dish in which you will bake them. Roll it out on a floured surface so as to obtain a rectangle measuring about 30x25 cm.
Put one half of the dough in the greased pan, and on it put a mixture of finely chopped walnuts, sugar for the filling and cinnamon. The other part of the dough is placed on top and poured with melted butter.
Lines are drawn depending on how you want to cut the baklava and it is placed in a preheated oven at 180 degrees, in which it is baked for about 30 minutes.
The oven is increased to 210 degrees and the baklava is left for another 10 minutes.
