A Eurostat survey showed that Bulgarians drink the cheapest beer and coffee in Europe. The data were presented after a detailed study of price differences on the Old Continent.
The study also showed that if you are a beer lover, a country like Iceland can ruin you, because in this country the prices of the drink are quite high.
Eurostat data show that the price differences for some food products in Europe are not so great, but for other goods - the difference is impressive.
For example, one kilogram of chicken breast fillet in Poland costs 3.92 euros, in Bulgaria the average price of chicken breast is 5.22 euros, in Belgium - 11.69 euros, in Finland - 13 euros, and in Luxembourg - 14.50 euros.
The cheapest olive oil is available in Spain, where a bottle of one liter costs an average of 2.68 euros, in Greece olive oil is offered for 5.32 euros, in Belgium - 11.69 euros, in Luxembourg - 14 euros, and in Bulgaria the average price of a bottle of olive oil is 7 euros.
At the top of the list for the countries where the cheapest sugar is sold were the Czech Republic, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands and Poland, where a kilogram of sugar is under one euro.
For comparison, sugar in Bulgaria is sold for 1.17 euros. The most expensive sugar is in Cyprus, where a kilogram is offered for 1.45 euros.
On the other hand, Bulgaria has topped the ranking for cheap beer, and it is estimated that one liter of sparkling drink in our country costs an average of 95 euro cents, while in no other European country the price of beer does not fall below one euro.
Close to our beer prices are also in Poland, Slovakia, Lithuania, Germany, the Czech Republic and Belgium, where the drink is sold for between 1.21 euros and 1.55 euros.
The European country where beer is most expensive is Iceland, with a liter of the drink costing 5.70 euros.
Iceland is followed by Turkey, where beer is just over 3 euros, followed by Luxembourg, Malta and Cyprus with beer prices of around 2 euros.
In Bulgaria we drink the cheapest coffee with a price for one cup - 54 euro cents.
The most expensive coffee is available in Switzerland and Greece for 3.29 and 2.89 euros per cup, respectively.
