A perennial herbaceous plant, which in the first year develops leaves in the form of a rosette, and in the second - a stem, can successfully cure the annoying cough. It is up to 1.5 m high, hairy, straight, hollow, and has a white soft core inside. It is found in wet places and in bushes, along rivers and swamps.
It is a medicinal rose / Althaea officinalis L. /, its roots are used to treat cough, and sometimes the leaves and flowers. The roots are removed in the fall, when the content of mucous substances is highest (September-December), or in early spring (February-April).
The leaves are harvested from July to September and the flowers from June to October. A benign herb is obtained from the roots of biennial plants, the roots of annuals are still thin and do not contain enough mucus, and those of three-year-old specimens are already hardened and the mucous substance has decreased.
By removing the roots, they are cleaned of thin roots and soil. Then they are peeled off, during which the facial fibers are removed - they are tough and do not allow the drug to be pulverized. Then the roots are dried in the shade or in an oven to a temperature of 45 degrees. They must be dried quickly so that they do not steam.
Dried roots are white or yellowish white with a faint characteristic odor and sweet taste. Store in a shady, ventilated and dry place. They are allowed to contain moisture up to 14%.
The roots have a bronchodilator effect cough. Internally in the form of infusion are applied to inflammation of the eye mucosa and skin.
Folk medicine recommends the roots of rose hips and cystitis, white flow, and externally in the form of compresses - for boils, wounds and more.
It is used in acute and chronic bronchitis, an adjunct in the treatment of acute chronic gastritis, enteritis and colitis, acute inflammatory processes of the urinary tract.
Use of medicinal rose:
It is taken internally in the form of a cold extract - 1 tbsp. rose hips are flooded with 300 ml of cold water. Leave to soak for 3-6 hours. After straining the extract, take 2-4 tablespoons every hour. It can be sweetened with honey.
