Basil is one of the most famous spices in the Mediterranean and Thailand. It is no coincidence that it is gaining more and more popularity in our country and it is difficult to imagine the preparation of pasta or pizza according to an original Italian recipe without the use of basil. Or an even better example - the famous Pesto sauce, which cannot exist without the use of basil.

Apart from being a spice, this fragrant plant is also an herb that has proven numerous healing effects on the human body. This is the reason why it is cultivated in almost all of Europe, and in some parts of Africa and Asia it can be found as a wild plant.

The healing properties of basil are many, and most of them are associated with its anti-inflammatory, analgesic and somewhat arousing effect. However, it is especially effective for stomach problems. Here's what it's important to know in this regard:

- Besides the fact that basil has a calming effect on the stomach and is an excellent remedy for colic, flatulence and almost any stomach pain, it is also used to treat depression and fatigue;

- In Bulgarian folk medicine basil is also used for dysentery, whooping cough, inflammation of the kidneys and shortness of breath;

- Most herbalists recommend chewing fresh basil leaves if you experience gum pain. You can also make a decoction of basil by leaving it soaked in water for a few hours and then using the liquid to sprinkle. The herb has a proven anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect;

- In case of persistent stomach pain, you can also make a basil infusion. This is done by pouring 2 tablespoons of the herb with 500 ml of boiling water and letting them soak for about 2 hours. Then strain the infusion and take 70 ml 4 times a day before meals.
