Braces are a good tool in improving the smile and jaw correction. Of course, they need to be taken care of, as well as the teeth themselves. Particular attention is paid to the food you eat.

If you do not clean your braces regularly, food debris in hidden and hard-to-reach places can cause plaque and tooth decay. There are some solid foods that are difficult to clean and can damage both your braces and your teeth.

You need to be careful about what you eat and how you do it. Of course, you will be able to consume your favorite foods, but this should be done more carefully, because some braces can come off. It is repairable and can stick, but this way, instead of moving forward with the treatment, you go back.

It is good to avoid sticky and hard foods such as nuts and candy. When you feel like eating a hard fruit or vegetable like an apple or a carrot, it is advisable not to bite off it with your front teeth. Cut it into pieces and chew with your back teeth.

Avoid foods that contain bones or are harder such as:

- Chicken wings;

- Parsnips;

- Hard biscuits;

- Chips;

- Corn on the cob;

- Hard breads.

There are other foods that are good to avoid chewing. Citrus fruits are strongly acidic and the pieces of them that can remain on braces, violate tooth enamel. You can avoid these unpleasant consequences if you prepare freshly squeezed grapefruit juice, for example. It is also good to avoid sweetened and carbonated drinks.

Despite all the precautions, there is no way food can remain between or in the braces. For this reason, it is good to always have a toothbrush on hand and use it to brush them thoroughly after each meal. Keep in mind that if food remains between the braces, it can cause white spots and tooth decay, which leads to inflammation of the gums.

Experts recommend brushing your teeth in the morning and evening for at least 3 minutes, clockwise! Of course, this is mandatory after every meal. Keep in mind that tartar needs to be cleaned every 6 months, and braces do not interfere with this procedure.
