At its last meeting, the European Parliament voted to limit plastic bags by 80 percent for the next five years.
This means that by 2019, all traders within the European Union will have to pack fruits and vegetables in paper bags, not plastic bags.
Plastic bags will be reserved for bulk foods such as nuts, raw meat and fish.
At the regular sitting, MEPs noted that plastic bags less than 50 microns thick are rarely reused and pose a major danger to the environment.
For the next five years, the European Parliament has set a limit of 80% on plastic bags, and aggravating taxes and fees will be imposed on traders who do not comply with the ban.
The new bags will be made of recycled paper and will be biodegradable.
The decision of the Parliament is related to the purposeful and consistent policy of the European Union to be cleaned of polyethylene.
At a session of the Bulgarian Parliament, on the other hand, it was decided to allocate BGN 2 million as aid to farmers for pest control of tomatoes - the mining moth.
To receive state subsidies, farmers must submit the necessary documents by October 1. The deadline for concluding the contracts is October 15, and for payment of the funds - November 28, 2014.
The state aid will compensate part of the costs for plant protection of farmers.
The subsidy that farmers will receive is BGN 250.
All agricultural producers who grow more than 10 decares of vegetable crops can apply for the state subsidy.
Applications for support are submitted to the regional directorates of the Agriculture Fund at a permanent address for individuals and at a management address for companies.
Last year, farmers received nearly BGN 1.8 million to fight tomato moth.
