Recently, the imagination of manufacturers about bringing the dark color of bakery products has become quite turbulent. It came to the addition of coffee grounds, caramel and all sorts of other colors. Some have even crossed the organic line and started to put banned substances in the bread, giving the desired color.

However, this practice has already ceased. The non-governmental organization Active Consumers assures us of this, which together with the University of National and World Economy recently conducted another large-scale study.

Now the results show that the darker color of the dough is actually due to the fact that it is made with standard flour. 10 types of black bread, traded in the shops for BGN 1-1.20, were checked. The indicators of the pasta products were compared with the recipe for bread Bulgaria established by the state. The organization is adamant that the bread is increasingly meeting the requirements.

However, manufacturers are still overdoing some of the ingredients. This is the case with the salt content, the maximum of which must be 1.2%. Levels of 1.3-1.5% sodium chloride have been found in Bulgarian products.

However, all these results apply to products in the specified price segment. Gotvach.bg advises you to read the labels of the bread carefully, not to go to shops with poor hygiene and not to buy bread without packaging. Don't buy bread that is described as "wheat flour, rye flour." Look for the names flour type 1000 (rye), type 1150 (type), type 1750 (whole grain). These are types according to the old BDS standard, which most manufacturers write on the label.

There are ways you can check if there are colors in your chosen black bread. Put a short loaf of bread in a glass of water, after a few minutes if the bread is prepared outside the standards, then the liquid will color.

It is also important to know that real bread should not "spring" when pressed and look like foam. And as for black bread, it is preferable that it is hard, even stiff. This means that it is not made from finely ground flour. However, pay attention to the shelf life of the product.
