A client of one of the capital's restaurants found several huge larvae in his portion with an appetizing lamb's head. The four fat larvae of an unknown species were served with the dish, and the terrified customer only realized what he had actually eaten when he had finished his portion.

The lamb heads with additional proteins were served to Ivo Birindjiev, who sat down to lunch at the cult Sofia pub Contessa. The restaurant, known for its good cuisine in the recent past and as one of the places with the best belly in the capital, is located in St. Nicholas Park, on the corner of Pirotska Street and Opalchenska Street.

At first, no one suspected that the disgusting creatures on the plate with the lamb's heads were larvae. The client thought it was a trifle and finished his portion with appetite when he found his mistake.

He immediately called the waiter and showed him the disgusting fat-worm-like things on his plate, but the waiter insisted that these were the most common protein larvae often found in meat, and there was nothing to worry about.

However, in order to compensate him for the disgusting experience, the restaurant offered him caramel cream, after which they kindly presented him with the bill in which the unfortunate portion of lamb's heads appeared.

Shocked by the open larvae in the plate, as well as by the carelessness of the waiter in Contessa, Ivo Birindjiev paid his bill and left the restaurant. He later posted photos of his disgusting find on the wall on his Facebook account.

According to people familiar with the matter, such cases are not isolated, but occur much more often than people think. These larvae sometimes inhabit the nostrils or ear pits of lambs and in case of poor cleaning of the heads they remain there and are cooked and served, bringing a more exotic taste to this typical Bulgarian dish.

The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) is the body that should control the quality and safety of products throughout the food chain - from the field and the farm, to the table, incl. the conditions and the manner of storage, as well as to self-refer in case of such established outrages.

Gotvach. BG contacted the restaurant in question for comment. In a telephone conversation, employee Stefan Ivanov denied that there had been a similar incident with them. He explained that everyone can take pictures of whatever they want and most likely they are trying to make a joke with the restaurant or it is a blow from the competition. We could not find the manager of Contessa, who, according to Ivanov, is on vacation.
