Traders and fishermen say pork chops and Black Sea fish prices will fall by half this fall. Native fishermen have been enjoying a rich catch for some time.

The price of pork registered a serious drop due to the imposed Russian embargo. At the same time, fishermen on the native Black Sea coast report that fish catches have increased, which could lead to a drastic drop in fish prices on the Varna and Burgas stock exchanges.

Record catches of bonito have been recorded by fishermen on the southern Black Sea coast. On the exchanges, fresh fish can now be found at prices from 8 to 10 levs per kilogram. Last year, the wholesale weight of bonito was between 10 and 15 levs.

There will also be a reduction in horse mackerel due to the good catch on the northern Black Sea coast. In August, a kilo of this fish was sold for 7-8 leva, and at the moment its wholesale price is between 5 and 6 leva.

Emil Milev from the Black Sea Sunrise fishing association says that for 2 weeks the fishermen in the country have been enjoying a rich catch of mullet, black grouse and zargan, which will drastically reduce the prices of these fish as well.

In the coming weeks, the price of pork will also fall dramatically due to the imposed Russian embargo. Russia has banned food imports from the European Union, which has slashed pork prices - especially in the German market.

According to the data, prices fell by 6.5% to 1.44 euros per kilogram, which is the lowest price of pork since 2011.

Due to the closed Russian market, pork from the Netherlands, Denmark, Spain, Poland, Italy will be sent for sale in the EU, including Bulgaria. Experts believe that this will lead to a sharp drop in the price of both Bulgarian and imported products.

At the same time, the Association of Meat Processors announced that the new rules for meat labeling will come into force on December 13.

The font size on the label will be increased. The substances in the meat that can cause allergies will be marked with a distinctive font, said Dr. Dilyana Popova from the Association.
