After the scandalous revelations of the Telegraph newspaper, from which it became clear that the native deputies have lunch with exquisite dishes at very low prices, it was decided to close the departmental chair in the parliament.
The lunch of the MPs will come from a catering company, and only salads and drinks will be prepared in the parliamentary buffet.
The private catering company will deliver the food every morning, and the local deputies will have to line up at two counters, where they will have to pay for their lunch.
The two employees of the company will sell the dishes, and each of them will have a cash register.
External companies will also supply the products needed for the preparation of salads, drinks, desserts and bread. These foods will be offered by saleswomen in the non-functioning departmental chair.
Although the prices for the MPs' lunch will jump significantly, the food of the MPs is still expected to be relatively low, with the final value of a standard menu being around BGN 5.
The catering company requires them to collect unsold food every day in order to be able to keep their accounts correctly.
MPs say they are pleased with the new changes, as the dishes they consume will be tastier and more refined. However, the more vain of them are dissatisfied that the dishes do not have any information about the calories they contain.
The departmental chair was officially closed by the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency due to violations related to the maintenance of the premises, ventilation, kitchen utensils and equipment.
At the beginning of this week, the public procurement started, which will provide worktops, tables and more equipment for the new buffet, where the native deputies will eat.
Some irregularities were found during the repairs, but the National Assembly stated that they would invite inspectors to check what was happening with the repairs before appeals were filed in court.
