After a series of inspections by the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency, many of the frauds that are used in almost all domestic food chains have become clear.
Inspectors from the Agency said that the shelf life of grilled chickens is 6 hours, and experts advise not to buy stale chickens from the warm window.
A roasted chicken can last between 4 and 6 hours, after which it is unfit for consumption.
This rule has been added to the documentation of traders who are prohibited from offering stagnant chickens to consumers.
According to the requirements for roasted chicken, it must be kept in a display case at a temperature of 63 degrees Celsius so as not to spoil.
For meatballs and kebabs, the shelf life is shorter, as the minced meat spoils faster.
But inspections show that these bans are being violated en masse by retailers, with non-compliance with the law being most evident in domestic supermarkets.
In not a small part of the food chains of the offered chicken meat, kebabs, meatballs, sausage and other dishes from the warm showcase, their expiration date expires the next day.
In order to give them an appetizing look, the hypermarkets prepare spoiled products with more spices and marinades.
The Food Safety Agency reports that after the inspections they found how the owners of large food chains are forcing their employees to buy salami, sausages, cheese and any other food products, which expire in 1-2 days.
Many cashiers at home hypermarkets report being threatened by their bosses, who have told them that if they do not buy spoiled food, they will not receive their salary.
After the inspections, another scheme of food chains emerged. Inspectors have found that most discounted goods are approaching their expiration date.
Unsold items were immediately transferred to the warm display case as ready meals.
Expired food is dangerous for consumption due to the appearance of salmonella, staphylococci and other bacilli that cause food poisoning.
